Why do macs still come with one button mice?

Shawn

Lifer
Considering the fact that OS X fully supports 2 button mice why does apple still only offer one button ones?

Studies have shown that having more than one button causes a mac user to be so confused and dumbfounded that they collapse from the mental strain.

i'll tell u exactally why. macs are designed with the novice user in mind. my grandparents recently got a new pc. i wanted to teach my grandma how to use it. it took quite a lot of effort to teach her everything about the two button mice. i also remember the one-button mice we had for the macs in my old middle school. yeah it was uncomfortable now that i'm used to a good 'ol 3+ button mouse, but back then it was alright. but just so kicks, apple is including in all new computers their "Mighty Mouse" which has two buttons and a track ball. 😉

The trackball scrolls both vertically and horizontally. It's a great feature.

They don't. This is just more FUD. The iMac and PowerMac both ship with the Mightymouse which features left/right clickings, a scroll ball, scroll ball button, and a thumb button.

They used to becasue Apple's design was focused on simplicity. One button is simplier than two.

I just started using the mighty mouse last month and love it! It's actually made of one piece, so there arn't two buttons per say. It can detect which side you are touching, and if you only touch the right side it will right click. It's great.

The notebooks do not come with any sort of external mouse. Your roomate bought the Bluetooth Mouse which unfortunately is still a one-button mouse.

i was so confused w/ the mighty mouse at first.. was setting up one of our two users who use a mac... at first it did nothing, same old one click. I thought I had heard wrong about the new mighty mouse being two button. Then I actually went into the preferences... heh.

anyway, calling FUD is a bit over defensive.. most ppl have no clue wtf the mighty mouse is and apple still has that one button mouse. looks like one button. anyway, if they made the trackball a smidge larger.. and threw it on my MX700... I would buy one. the mighty mouse is still one of the most uncomfortable devices I've used.

All their mice are that way it seems. Did you ever use their stupid hockey puck ones that came with the imacs??

They come with one button mice, so the people that buy over priced Macs will buy over priced mice.

Apple could sell dog crap with a Apple logo on it and people would pay out the nose for it.

This is true. My roommate bought the mouse for his iBook because it "matched". Still, the touchpad only comes with one large button. How hard would it be to split it down the middle and make it into two buttons?
