Why do javagames play so much better under Win2K compared to Win98?

I have a K6-2/350 @ 412.5 and 96MB PC66, and I actually noticed lag in javagames when running my desktop at 1024x768 with 24bpp colour. Now I'm in Win2K, and it's completely lagless, it's so nice and smooth compared to when in 98! What's the reason or this? ..

I'm just speculating but the java games are probably multi-threaded (it's real easy to do this in Java...relatively I guess). I think Win2K does multi-threading better than Win98 and so the multithreaded Java games play smoother. In Win98 there is probably a thread in the java game that is limiting the performance of the overall game simply because Win98 doesn't do multi-threading so well.

Hi guys, I'm not much of a gamer, so I was wondering what is a java game?

Is it a game on a CD that was compiled in Java, or are you talking about games trough websites?

Is just that it is the second time today I heard about java games, which I had never heard of before. Outside those applets on IBM ads.

Thanks.

BTW. If they are really CD games written in JAVA, what is the advantage over games written in VB? Besides portability.

Most games aren't made in Java or VB. :)

I'm talking about games you play through websites online. Check out Java Gameplay.

That shows you how much I know

I had seem some games on sites before, like backgamon where you can play against someone else. But this type of site is news to me. There is a good potential there as broadband extends its reach. Thanks for the link.
