Why do Irvine and Sunnyvale have such low crime rates?

sunnyvale is a tiny town nestled inbetween larger cities. people move into sunnyvale looking for a better area to live in. the high schools are really good, on the rich part of town especially. on the "poorer" side, it is still a lot better than the other areas of the town.

they're not humongous, which helps... irvine is all business and the people that moved in there to work in business.

Well, I know they both have over 100K population. That is not really tiny. Also the crime calculator averages crime per 100,000 population.

i went to high school in sunnyvale. although some consider my high school the "ghetto" one it was still a decent high school. people just live in sunnyvale and pass on through, there's really nothing else to do in the town. if anything happens its "omg there was a robbery last night"

Isn't Sunnyvale where Buffy is from? That would probably explain why the crime rate is low there. Home of the slayer and all.

Irvine police ships bums to Santa Ana or Costa Mesa to keep the city clean. I saw this happen right before my very eyes. Crime is probably low because they try very hard to keep the city clean ... plus, it's not ghetto like Compton. :p

I actually remember this a few years ago, there was quite a stir in the papers. Also, Irvine to maintain their value charges high home ownerr associations fees. I've seen it high as 300 dollars a month. You have to interview to buy a house in some communities, etc. You have to apply to Housing association just to put up sattelite dish, etc.

you DO know that the whole town is in effect owned by the irvine company and they shape it all to their liking right?

Like I said....demographics....or to be more correct but not allowed to say it.....both have very low minority populations.

You need to compare apples to apples the Size Irvine, CA compared to Atlanta,Detroit Los Angles New York
that isn't a fair comparison.

Sunnyvale is very high tech right? Lots of software companies and such. NASA has some facilities there too. I would expect an area like that to be very affluent.

A 100,000 person city is giant. We have ~700 people in my home town.

Does the local media also own a lot of real-estate in those towns? Sometimes the reported crime rate is much lower than the actual.

I'm not sure about that but teri hatcher went to fremont high (the sunnyvale high school).

I'm in sunnyvale right now, most people don't lock their car doors. it's sickening.

The Irvine Co's intentions for the city of Irvine has always been to make it a master-planned community.
Also the company isn't named for the city of Irvine, but for the entire Irvine Ranch (which includes Newport).

But the demographics and high association fees to maintain the community are the key reasons for the low crime rates.

i think it's just cuz you gotta have money to live here... students struggle most to live in this city because of that...

on a side note, if you've ever been to irvine, all the streets are windy, and i heard that's because designers of the city didn't want people snooping around, so they made it so that you have to know how to get around (or something like that)... so maybe that might be a contributing factor too???

err... yeah, that might be a bit off the wall...

What are you talking about? It's one of the only cities I've lived in that has 45-55MPH speed limits on city streets!

i work in irvine and the people that own house out here that work here are always always complaining about their home owners association and how anal they are..

how much they charge, how they have to get a permit even to fart in their front yards...bla bla bla
