Why do I wake up after 4 hours of sleep after I've been out drinking?

It used to be that when I'd got out drinking til 3am that I could count on being sound asleep until noon or so, but since several years ago I'll wake up after about 4 hours and be unable to go back to bed.

It's kinda annoying to be honest because I'm not a fan of waking up early on weekends.

Haven't had any alcohol for a little over 12 months. It's so weird. But I could sleep in for hours back then after a binge.

Your brain shrinks when you sleep to make way for cerebrospinal fluid to come in and flush out all the beta-amyloid proteins which accrue while you are awake and are deposited into your bloodstream and carried to the liver for processing while you sleep.

Between the dehydration and your liver working overtime kiss a good nights sleep goodbye.

I think your body begins going through mild withdrawal as the high levels of alcohol are metabolized and you wake up because of it.

If I drink heavily, I'm lucky if I get 5 hours of sleep.

I spend my whole night after waking up scrolling thru 9gag. 10 glasses of water and many pisses into the pee jug and still wide awake. I never drink if I have to work the next day.

b/c epinephrine (adrenalin); your body is trying to get rid of the alcohol.

alcohol causes histamine to spike and epinephrine is one of the few substances that can unbind histamine.

Take like, half of one benedryl (not too much because of the sleepy-ness) would probably do wonders for reducing hangover.

spiking epi probably has more to do with the histamine than alcohol itself.
