Why do I need to reboot my router daily

I have been using optimum.net which is listed as a Hybrid Node Type with there Cisco DPQ3212 3.0 2-PORT EMTA for cable and phone.
I am charged for a ultra 101 by 30 plan.
Most of the time my wired speed is 60-63 Mbps after a router reboot my speeds are nomal 115-119 Mbps for the next two days.
I have trendnet 639 router and port 80 is open on the modem.
The only way I can get the correct default or double the down speed is to reboot the router.

Crappy/dying router?
That would be my guess as well.

Either that or there's something your network is doing that is slowly overloading the thing. (Which I guess means it's an inadequate router, not necessarily crappy.)

I'm not familiar with your particular model, but I had a DSL modem/router provided by Qwest which would run fine for months on end, but slow to a crawl and lock up after a few hours of BitTorrent use. It just couldn't handle all the concurrent connections.

Something like that could be your issue.

After a reboot every speed test shows 117-119Mbs or 15MIB/s.
Without reboot I only 60 down by 40up which is still good.
I see no changes in ipconfig or on the routers status page after a reboot.
Under normal use I cant tell the difference between 60 or 119Mbs but I do pay 15 dollars more for the so called ultra101 plan.
There only is one pc on the network 90% of time.

Does the router's status page tell you anything about CPU or memory use? Doe sit have any kind of traffic monitoring or QoS features?

What applications are you running on the PC? What kind of data are you pushing/pulling?

It's entirely possible you just need a new router, but without a lot more information, or a really obvious failure, it's just as likely something else from where I'm sitting.

Thanks all the router is raised off the ground with a masking tape spacer to stay cool.
No firewall or antivirus just Microsoft essentials and wireless is shut off.
I have the same router speed problem from cpu idle to 70% load.
There is new cat6 wires with intel nics all the pc.
Modem voltage power level signal to noise are always good.
Very possible it could be a firmware which I may flash if I can get a later firmware.
I have only one problem with 3 PCs and that is download speed is half of rated speeds.
The network never lost a connection wired or wireless strange this is going on for 6 months.
Cable company says remove router no thanks.

What are you using to get these bandwidth measurements?

What time of day/under what conditions are you running these tests?

Does the problem disappear *immediately* after you reboot?

Is there a Coax splitter between where the line comes into your home and the modem?

The cable company is right, you need to remove the router temporarily to troubleshoot the problem. Leave the router on and plug a PC directly into the modem while you're having the issue, test the speed. Then plug the router back into the modem *without* rebooting the modem, plug that same PC into the router, test the speed. That will point pretty clearly to which device in the chain is causing the issue and you can go from there.

Does the problem disappear *immediately* after you reboot? YES IT goes from 62 to 119Mbs or 15Mib/s.
I use My IP test page for the first test and get 60 or 119.
http://www.speedtest.net/?a=1 most of there sites read 118-119 after router reboot I be.

There ultra50 plan is capped at 50+Mbs my ultra plan is set to 101.
OOL has a fiber outside my window then tee to coaxial to inside 2nd tee then modem.
In the last 10 years I always got at least 10-12Mbs more then there listed speeds.
My speed would be correct for a ultra 50 plan but it is half of ultra101 plan.
Once router is rebooted speeds stay at over 101Mbs till pc is shut down.
I used http://www.dslreports.com/ till I got a message below.
{Since your particular IP does not resolve to a domain name, we cannot compare your result to others}
I then added a domain name ool-********.dyn.optonline.net on the router no difference.
During the last 12 years with the same IP I removed different routers 24x and never saw any difference in speed.
The pci-e and nic are set not sleep or conserve power in power plan.
I have a clean line from pole to house.

I think my favorite haiku is appropriate here:
Yesterday it worked.
Today it is not working.
Computers do that.

It's not a question of whether you were able to do this in the past or not. The fact that you are having a problem now means that there is a problem now and you need to find out what that problem is. One step to do that is to temporarily remove the router from the connection to verify whether the problem is in the router or something else.

With no router high speed is back to 119 Mbs.
My onboard nic which is turned off in the bios southbridge still had a 2nd cat6 wire on it going to a router lan port.

This is problably the fault of a cache table that gets filled up and never cleaned correctly/quickly. It is a usual bug of low, medium to medium-high routers.

DD-WRT and pfSense routers do not have this bug.

Thanks everyone but for web use I cant tell the difference between 60 or 119Mbs.
That asus router would be great to extend a wireless to a few extra rooms in my house.
