Why do I lose video on an irregular basis with a fresh Windows installation?

I have had some problems for a time. When I use my computer the computer often loses video after some time (monitor led starts to blink green and the display is black). It can lose video after only 5 minutes or 2hrs and some times run for hours without losing video at all. I have not been able to get this problem in bios setup.

There are not many things to strip from the computer since the only expansion card in it is a video adapter. I have one hard drive and one optical drive.

No recent hardware upgrades have been done.
I have reinstalled Windows and formatted the hard drive but the problems persists.
I have run the HDD manufacturers diagnostics on my hard drive and found no errors.
I have reset the bios settings to default but without any improvements.
The drivers in the system are up to date.

What can cause this problem?
What should I try next?
