Why do I look better in the bathroom mirror but look ugly in pictures?

When I look at myself brushing my teeth in the bathroom mirror, I don't think I look too bad. But when I see pictures of myself (ID badge at work, webcam pictures of myself or just plain photographs), I think I look really ugly and fat. What's up with that?:confused:

Its called self perception versus real world perception. Face it, you are ugly :p

Some people are just not photogenic.

Because you are under the right amount of lighting, so you look beter in mirror.
Webcam and ID badge pics suck, if you want to look better, tell a professional photographer to do a photo shoot for you.

Dude, this post is so relevant. I hadn't seen a picture of myself in a year ago, and when I recently saw one taken of me just a few weeks ago, my esteem took a punch in the stomach. I can't belief how much less attractive I am than I thought I was.

Kinda like how you studly you sound. Then when you actually hear yourself talk, you're like: DAMN, who is that nerd?

Share your pic with us. I'll be able to decide if it's just a confidence issue or if it's for real. ;)

On a serious note though, some people are just photogenic; whilst some just never look good in pics. Pics almost never successfully captures all of my beauty. My sis on the other hand is quite beautiful in person, but the pics accentuate that beauty. I guess the camera is just favourable to some. :p When modeling, one of what they look for is how the cameras favour you. You can look good in person, but if the camera doesn't favour you, then it isn't likely to work in your favour when searching in that industry.

There's a simple solution. Next time you're about to get your picture taken... grab yourself a toothbrush and smile away.

i think its because most bathrooms use regular lightbulbs, whereas most other places use flourescent lighting.

could it be because you're used to seeing your reflection in the mirror, which is reversed left to right.. and your image in pictures is not reversed? could make a difference if your face is even slightly asymmetric.. just an idea...

I think everyone looks like this. It also depends on your mood. Sometimes I look good, others I don't. I'm not photogenic either.

In the mirror, you always posts at the right(good) angle that makes you look good. However, no other person knows that angle.


Or, you are naked in front of mirror and fully dressed in front of camera. Try switching :0

Same thing here....I hate my pics but I don't look so bad in the mirror close up.
I think it just has to do with you seeing your face in the mirror way more than in photos. Your just used to it more and the photos distort this common view you have of yourself.
