1.) Part-time job
2.) If I understand you correctly that CC is under your Moms name therefore it does nothing to enhance your credit profile
3.) The more you apply the worse it is b/c you become known as a "credit seeker" especially bad if you keep getting turned down.

<< 1.) Part-time job >>

Not a big concern.
I have no job at all, and I still got the credit cards.
But I remember my first card was from college campus with $500 credit limit.

If you make less than $30k a year, fahgeddaboutit. You dont need more than 1 card anyway.

Do you know what the hell you are talking about? It's him MOM's card. He can't get pr0n with that!

Plus, I am in college and have no job. I have one with credit limit of $15,000.

Yep your mom's card isn't helping you. The checking account definately helps. Apply for a gas card or a Foleys/JCPenneys/Structure card. They almost never turn you down, and a good way to get a good credit rating so you can get a Visa.

i got a college card from visa as my first cc - worked out fine, i only had a part time job then. its probably the card you are going after, like american express will not give you a card unless you make over 30k a year or so - god bless my blue :)

Be glad that you arent being accepted for credit cards. They will do nothing to help you in the long run.

I recommend that you save your cash and deal with debit cards for a few years. Once you have ~$5000 cash saved up, get a credit card to minimize risk on online purchases. Make sure that the card allows you to make payments online and pay every time that you make a purchase (maintain the balance at 0)

I had a problem when I was your age getting a credit card. I had to take one of those high interest cards. After having that a few months I was able to get a better card. Just keep sending them in somebody will give you one. But be warned getting a credit card is sometimes dangerous if you don't know how to manage your money. If you have a checking account get yourself one of those debit cards with overdraft protection.
good luck

Credits cards! HA

I was in 3rd year when I first applied for mine...
I got 2 letters, the first came one week, and said "sorry, we cannot give you a card at this time, but if anything changes please get back to us"...
The following week, I got another one that had my new credit card in it.....

Yup, whatever... visa is F@cked up i guess

Hehe. You can have some of mine. Ever since I bought a house I get at least two pre-approved cards in the mail EVERY DAY. Funny to think I was in your shoes not so long ago.

Anyway, the gas/department store idea is a good one. Start small.

Whatever you do, don't max a card out. I dug that hole once and it was hell getting the damn thing paid off in addition to all my other bills with the house, etc.

If you are a student go with Blue for Students from AMEX. Great card and easy to get if you are a full time college student.

what ever you do DO NOT KEEP APPLYING FOR CREDIT CARDS it will spank you in the end.

1st off if you have no credit you have bad credit! just a fact of the game. If you keep appling for credit then you look desperate for credit and no one will touch you with a 10 foot pole. Why?

Everytime you apply for credit that company inquires your credit. To many inquires = Negative points for your credit score. So before you apply again calll them to see what their mininmun standars are BEFORE giving them your Social. So you probably have a bad start already but I would suggest like the other member to get a gas card JCpenny but not a structure card they are dicks! (trust me)

Also Having alot of credit is good being MAXED is Bad! If you get a card do not let it sit at MAX ever. Future credit card Companies look at that as not being able to keep up with the cards you already have so if they do give you credit it will be a High rate. Also Some Banks that have your checking account (I suggest you get a savings account as well) will give you a break on the CC because they already hold some of your money.

hmmm I know I am forgetting something...

Oh yea Are you a College student? If you are alot of Universities have Credit Unions for their employees that will allow you to join.

Credit Unions are MUCH better to get any kinda loan from and/or CC. If you can go this direction.

oh as the fella stated before that CC with your moms name is useless. He is right!

and DO NOT pay inflated sign up/ processing fees/ member fees/ 1 time fees That is them raping you! I'll tell you I got a credit offer the other day and they wanted nearly $200 for 5 different fees! what kinda moron wouldn't throw that in the garbage?!?! unfortunaly some people are so strapped for credit that they will.

One more thing before I run outta gas. If you are able or willing a small car loan will help your rating immensly. MAKE SURE that it is under your name only or at least your name is first on the loan. and NEVER MISS A PAYMENT!

I'd apply for some major dept store credit cards..maybe some gas cards.
If all else fails..you can get a secured credit card. Have to pay them 300 that they hold and you draw some petty interest off of, like a 50 dollar annual fee and a 23.9 % interest rates...get these offered to me all the time..
Preapproved credit card for 300 bucks..
