Why do I have to horizontally scroll in Firefox in AT?

On my laptop, why is it that I have to horizontally scroll with Firefox but not with IE? It is insanely annoying, and i can't figure out why. I have no usercontent.css changing the forum layouts, yet I still have to horizontally scroll on the front page of OT, why?

The same thing happens to me on my Mac in both Safari and Firefox. I haven't changed any of the default font or style sheet settings so I have no idea. I can even expand the window to fill my screen and the horizontal scroll is still there. My resolution is 1280 x 854.

Not sure what you are seeing but using firefox on my lappy @ 1024x768, I have only a very minor horizontal scroll; we're talking about less than 1/3 inch. No real problem there. I'll take a look on my desktop tomorrow but don't expect different.

Oops! Just noticed that the "OT" forum was mentioned. I always go by the saying that "you get what pay for". In other words, if you go to OT, you get what you get. J/K. I just checked but did not see any significant difference or problem with "horizontal scrolling". LMK.

That tiny horizontal one is the one i am talking about. I know, its not a big deal but still. Oh well, I use IE anyways.

IE>Firefox.

I came here to ask about the same thing!

Is it the browser to blame or site coding?

Check the validity of the HTML. If it isn't compliant to current standards, I'd start by blaming the site. ;)

well, i remember it had to be editied to support mozilla... and only after 1.0 got out of beta.

But, it was working fine before the last change... after that everything went downhill. The "My Forums" page suffers the worst I've noticed

It's not only happening on OT for me. It also happens to me on all of the forum pages including "my forums" and the "faq". It even happens on the forum home page. I changed my user agent to Windows MSIE 6 in Safari, and it doesn't change anything - the problem still occurs. I also tested this in Camino which is also Gecko engine based and it still shows the same issue. Could it be an engine rendering issue that applies both to Safari (KHTML) and Gecko?

It never happens on the rest of the site except the forums for me. (Safari, Firefox, Camino)

Example pics:

Here are 3 different horizontal sizes from Safari showing what happens:

Safari 1
Safari 2
Safari 3

Not exactly what the OP was talking about but another person did mention it.

My Forums(<-- picture) in the link My Forums, where you can see your Favorites, Latest Messages, Hot Topics, etc. You'll see in my Favorites that is requires a scroll to the right.

This happened once before when AT upgraded FT last year or so and I had made a post about the same thing. What it looked like you did was change this:

-------------------------------------------------
Software - Apps, Programming and Games
-------------------------------------------------

into this
-------------------------------------------------
Software -
Apps, Programming and Games
-------------------------------------------------

Well, something similar to it.

It is like that with IE 6.0 with lastest junk and with Firefox at 1024x768 .

I'm getting it on this page right now with firefox .9.2 on XP.

To fix it, remove the 9px padding from the two blue bars (the ones that have the ads).

I have the horizontal scroll in all forums with Firefox (I know, it's a beta and is not supported by AT.) and it looks fine (no scroll bar) in IE. But since Firefox is > IE, I will stick with Firefox.

^-- the man with the answers.

It does look like the blue bar is set to 100%, and the additional padding is forcing it to scroll horizontally, even though the rest of the page doesn't require scrolling.

It's not the browser's fault. In this case, FireFox/Mozilla/Safari is just displaying what you give it (IOW, when you do this, a browser that renders CSS correctly will give you these exact results).
