Why do I have only 1% system resources free?

I have 384mb of ram. What the hell is using it all? :Q Using windows98se...

I've barely got anything open, I could have 3 times as many things open with windows 2000 and not even hiccup. I had forgotten how much win98 sucks. :|

Is there any way to fix it, or free up GDI resources without rebooting?

You have leaky memory.

Seriously, some program is eating up resources and not letting them go. Trillian used to do it to me... ctrl-alt-del and close things one by one. Might fix it, might not.

I think the best way is to restart. or try some ram cleaning program

try FreeRAM
or poke around here
It's not technically RAM thats all used up, it's "GDI resources". I used TaskInfo2000's ram freeing program and, sure, it freed up my ram.. but I still have no resources free.

When GDI is so low, it sucks.. you can't open programs, and the things that you do manage to open will be broken, as in missing parts.. like the menus, or the body of the window etc, half the icons, etc.. It's weird.

I JUST rebooted, and I only have 57% free.. with only ICQ, AIM, YIM, 1 explorer window, and DU Meter.

What's in your MSCONFIG? With 320 in my main rig running 98 I have like 93% free after a reboot with only the bare necessities loaded in MSCONFIG

Because I know/talk to people on all of them, heh. At least I don't have MSN, too.

You were quite spoiled by using 2k for a long time, you don't "care" as much about programs running becuase they aren't limited by 64KB memory heaps. the user and gdi resources are limited no matter what your physical memory is.
