Why do I have lag from picture to sound?

Finally got the new 65" LCD set up, and it's great, but watching cable TV, the sound and picture aren't quite synched up, between the mouth moving and the speech. Any ideas?

Is the set 120hz? Are you running HDMI? Is the connection run directly to the TV or through a receiver? There are a few things that could induce lag in the audio. The first thing I would do however would be unplug the cable box for a few minutes and let it reboot.

Yes.

Direct.

OK, didn't know that. I have a DVR if that's relevant.

Are you splitting the cables cable?

No.

Does your receiver have a lip sync / time delay adjustment?

You mean the tv? I'm looking for that.

It's fairly common for people running with a receiver based system. I assumed you were using one. What's the model of the TV?

It could be the cable company DVR. There are quite a few models out that have poor firmware and can lose lip sync.

Many modern AVRs allow you to adjust the delay manually. Does your AVR allow you to do this? If so, try it.

He doesn't have a receiver... Buying one would fix the problem, but that's a pretty expensive solution. ;)

Menu - select audio - select lip sync - adjust
(pages 40, 41 of your manual)

This should give you the ability to try to correct the issue through the TV. I don't know where the issue is originating, but you may be able to fix it with this.

It's kind of you to help that way, thanks! I'll try that. Maybe it's just a bad default setting.

Well a lot of answers are in there. Honestly, I don't tend to read my own that much (I'd rather just figure things out through trying different settings... as long as there's an OSD), but when doing something over the phone or online, it's a heck of a lot easier to just look up how to do something.
