i can play Counter-Strike, Team Fortress, Half Life multiplayer fine, but when playing just Half Life single player (trying to complete the game with Gordon), I'll get dizzy.
i can play UT, Q3 and Wolfensteign just fine.

the same thing happens with 007 Golden Eye for N64. i can play multiplayer, 4 person split screen, just fine, but I'll get dizzy trying to be the game).

it also seems to worsen when the screen gets bigger, i.e. i'll get dizzier on a 36" TV than on a 20".

it happens to a few of my friends too. anyone else?

i get motion sickness from any fps. iirc, the reason is that my brain is detecting motion from my eyes but not from anywhere else.

the reason i get seasick is that my brain is detecting motion from everywhere except my eyes(which is why they tell you to look at the horizon iirc).

EDIT: so perhaps the bigger screen takes up more of your field of vision and fools your brain more while a smaller screen is surrounded more by non-movement in your field of vision?

I get sick in single player FPS too... but multiplayer I can play all day. I think part of the problem is in multiplayer you're constantly checking behind you, single player you don't.

I play FPS in the dark on a 19" Monitor from about 2-3feet back. Never gotten sick/dizzy.

I can see how it might happen, but, I guess it doesn't bother me. I don't get motion sickness in cars either. I did get a little naseau on a cruise I took but it faded quickly.

heh maybe a nap would help.

i think that in multi player games you are more focused than when you play computers. also the chatting and the muting of idiots also help taking away some dizziness, i guess...

or maybe it's the break you get when you die within 30 seconds into a round.

I have a little trouble with single player (not much) and i think its becuase in MP you are running around shooting people, constantly on the move. In SP you are crossing beams and jumping around, generaly on the edge all the time, particularly half life iirc.

That's odd... I have no idea how your brain distinguishes single player from multiplayer...

I would think it would relate to the level of tension and concentration that you feel in multiplayer games, which probably distracts you from being nauseous. I suppose you could use those sea bands that sailors sometimes wear on their wrists, which I would think would alleviate your seasick feeling. They use acupressure and are supposed to be highly effective. EDIT: Here are sea bands.
