Why do humans sigh after a sip of a delicious beverage?

I just had a drink of water from the fountain here at work and let out a loud sigh of pleasure afterwards. I got to thinking that I do this all the time. Is there a reason why we do this?

maybe its a combination of gasping for a breath after taking a gulp and a sigh :) and it makes it louder than average?

its so pleasurable that if you do not physically release (i.e. a sigh in this case) some of it you will explode from all the excitement.

I don't know but it's fvcking annoying :| Every morning I have to listen to a guy I work with do this. Walks in every morning, sits down, takes a sip of coffee and chases it with a giant sigh/gasp for breath. Repeat this process about 10 times. Every morning I just want to grab his coffee cup and shove it up his a$$ :|

</rant> ..... *sigh* :p

Maybe it's just breathing out after taking the sip of a drink? Your mouth is open, so you breathe out through that rather than your nose.

exactly. Its beacuse youve been drinking and not breathing. Its not a sigh, its called taking a breath.

But it is more like a sigh because most people breathe out....just think of the dire consequences if directly after taking a gulp you breathe in heavily, you might suck in the hot beverage and choke! :Q
