Why do hotels not have outlets by the bed?

Honestly, I've stayed in SO many hotels in the past 4 weeks - and NONE of them have had an outlet within "plug in laptop" distance from the bed.

One had one but everything was plugged into it and more - it had a surge protector filled!

I've noticed that too. I think it's because they hate their customers. The only time I've had sockets is when they were part of the lamp on the nightstand.

Good idea. Probably for safety or something like that.

Or possibly they just don't want you using electricity.

That would be my best bet. Electricity costs very little here but it can very quite a bit depending on what part of the country, or what country you are in. If they give you the plug they really have no control over how much electricity you use up. At least if it's a regular run of the mill outlet anyway.

Driving cross-country multiple times, I've never had this problem. I always had a nightstand with a clock plugged into a close by outlet for me to plug my laptop into.
