With all of the recent talk about states passing new gun control laws, and companies threatening to leave the states, I have to ask why do gun companies setup shop in liberal states to start with?

I figure a lot of it has to do with when the nation was founded. Gun companies wanted to be close to new york and washington dc.

As mass transit became easier, why didn't gun companies move west and south?

Why not set up shop where the majority of your customers are at?

Why setup shop in a liberal left leaning state that is likely to pass gun control legislation, then a right leaning conservative state that is less likely to pass gun control laws?

They don't. A lot of them were in liberal states before they were liberal (gun laws-wise).

Beretta USA is actually threatening to move out of Maryland over proposed gun control legislation.

Exactly.

Many of those companies have been in the same location for a very long time and had no reason to move until now.

Also in cases like Magpul in Colorado the state has taken a fairly extreme swing to the left on gun rights that no one probably anticipated.

First there's capitalism, wealth and riches. This brings in the heavy population that, when enclosed together in a big city, become poor and dependent. From dependence comes Democrats... and from them come anti-capitalism policies.

This appears to be the natural decay of capitalism into something else. Look at Detroit.

Because not everyone in a "liberal state" is a liberal and vice versa. Im in a red state but im anything but a "typical" conservative.

Shh... how dare you bring common sense into this thread.

What difference does the minority make? For Liberal states like California it's quite clear who is in control and what anti-gun policies are to follow.

Because "minority" is essentially meaningless in these matters. Look at any map like this:

Declarations that one state is "liberal" and another is "conservative" are woefully inadequate.

Please don't tell me you think the red in California makes ANY difference.

As far as CONTROL of government is concerned, and the policy coming out of it, the liberal label for an entire state is accurate. Just follow state policy and you'll see who is who.

Why not ask the CEO's of each and get the answer straight from them.

So people can propose stupid posts?

Have you ever bought a home or rented an apartment? When you did, did you take certain factors into consideration? Such as crime rates, access to jobs, hospitals, schools,,, or anything else?

When a gun company sets up shop, shouldn't the political atmosphere be taken into consideration?

yep, even though almost half of us in california are "red" our opinions apparently don't matter . . espcially when it comes to guns!

Its not minority vs majority, its who is vocal and politically active.

What rich gun manufacturer would want to live among armed hicks? The action is in liberal states.

Most of those gun makers have been around for a time longer than a state was overwhelmingly anti gun. Some were very gun friendly for a long time like Colorado and the went fully the opposite direction. Others were never really leaning in either direction but changes over the decades for various reasons.

The thing is, once you setup shop, it's difficult and expensive to go somewhere else. So while legislation for your business is becoming increasingly unfriendly to your business, you continue as best as you can until you can't. Once those businesses are unable to operate in their current place then they'll move.

I'm sure the amount of tax subsidies given to the manufacturers has a lot to do with it. Connecticut basically saved Colt Firearms a few years ago with a massive giveaway. Companies go primarily where the suckers give them the most public money.

BTW-historical tidbit-back in the Civil War era and thereafter, Hartford, CT was the richest city per capita in the USA because of the gun manufacturers located there, mainly Colt.
