Why do Giants use Baker's son as bat boy?

The kid is 3 years old!
How much use can he be.....he can hardly lift a bat!
Can a 3 year old even understand the game of baseball?
Anytime the cameras were on him he was staring into space, looked bored out of his mind.

Plus he almost got trampled to death running out in the path on a charging base runner LINK

Kinda stupid if you aske me

I heard one of their players refer to him as their good luck charm, since up until Game 6, they had not lost a post season game when he was in the dugout. He did not travel on road games until Game 6.

Edit: Even so, I agree with you that it was stupid to have him in the dugout.

The apparent age rule is 5 years old. Darren is 3.5 years old but he kept bugging the hell out of Dusty Baker every day but saying "When am I going to be 4" or something like that. So eventually Dusty gave in. Also most of the player's sons are allowed to help around either being bat boys or ball boys. Dont know their ages though.

I think Dusty was thinking along those same lines after that incident.

Nothing brought me greater joy than seeing that kid bawl his eyes out after the Giants lost the world series... :D:D

As for Darren, he was fine in the dugout a moment later, sticking his finger in his nose for a national television audience.

Oh, ain't that cute?
