why do game makers make you have the cd in your tray when gaming?

I have never understood this concept of why they do that. every patch that gets released, i am forced to go out to gamecopyworld, get the no cd patch and apply it. Most games that you play online check for duplicate cd keys. if the game checks for duplicate cd keys, then whats the point of annoying the consumer with the cd in the tray deal?

Uhhh copy protection?

Or at least a feable attempt at it.

why? Battlefield vietnam and etc. check for duplicate cd keys, no need for cd check if you are checking for the actually key

So you can't just pass it to 1 million people and let them install it and play it.
Granted they could get the no cd patch, but most casual gamers doesnt know what a no-cd patch is.

What sucks about Battlefield Vietnam is the discs can't be ripped. So my CDs are getting scratched up as my roommates and I pass them between each other (LAN).

Since when? CloneCD is not your friend but it should be.

I used Discdump (1.4.1) to rip it, daemon tools (3.44) to mount, no problems. (both those programs are free btw)

I've tried ripping the UT2k4 .ISO with Nero and mounting with Daemon tools with all the emulation options turned on. It doesn't work 🙁

Maybe I should try an updated version of D-Tools. Or Alcohol 120%

Nero is useless for copy-protected games. Rip with Alcohol or CloneCD and mount with Daemon-Tools...

blindwrite can rip an image, but only works mounted, not burnt 🙁

GamesXcopy works as well (for creating the image, burning a backup, or mounting the image as a fake cd like daemon tools does.) .... I used it to back up my BF Vietnam & BF 1942 with no problems.

CloneCD doesn't work. It slows on the errors and there are a few thousand. It might work, but I've never left it alone for hours.

They think it prevents piracy.
Tell that to everyone with their friend's copy of starcraft.
All it does to the rest of us is make us hop over to gamecopyworld. It's especially bad for games that check every now and then...wait, the GAME IS GOING FREEZE for a second while it spins up the CD...oh darn, you died, sorry.

Very useful site. 🙂

One of the most. Ever.

Umm yeah that's wonderful. Doesn't change the fact that I can't rip the game with Alcohol or CloneCD with any settings.

Because your CD-ROM feels lonley.

The game companies are in bed with the cdrom/ dvdrom manufactures and want to ruin the shorten the life of the drives and thus making you buy a new one 😛 😱
