Why do FX 4300 and FX 6300 consume same amount of power? Why FX 4300 is priced lower and has 4 cores but still consumes 95w. Is it as good as i5 if not why?

They don't, they just have the same TDP.

FX-4300 is not as good as an i5 because each core is much slower.

TDP is not what the processor actually draws. It's what it was designed to handle, but that doesn't necessarily it's using that much power.

No, because AMD is confusing the uninformed by calling each module a "dual-core" when it's actually a single core+CMT. It is better to compare it to a Core i3 instead.

As for the FX4300, I feel that the FM2 Athlons are a better buy. Same level of potential performance with OC, and not saddled with a 2009 chipset. You might even get an ability to upgrade to Kaveri-based Athlons...
