Why do foreigners tend to...

Use MSN messenger or whatever it's called? I swear everytime I am in a computer lab they almost all use that chat program vs. Trillian/AIM/<insert any other chat client here>. Any reason?

And yes, I am serious

I am not a foriegner and i use msn messenger. I like it. What is the big deal in preference in chat program? Are any really that much better than others? They all have the same basic function, to communicate with others.

Because foreigners hate America so much that they can't stand the idea of 'America' Online.. so instead, they use the product of America's biggest monopoly...

I have a better question...
Why do foreigners tend to smell bad? Is it okay in any culture to smell bad?

i also noticed all the chinese people in my workplace use msn while everyone else like my friends use AIM

I didn't think that one was compatible with all the others though...If it indeed isn't wouldn't that severely limit who you could chat with?

I like Google's new Instant Messenger. It's so much nicer than all the other ones. Even in beta, it's already very polished.

They like the overly colorful pictures and icons and features which are bloated and lag their computers to no end and being their cousin, I have to go format their computers. MSN can suck it. :|

Every messenger is identical in every way.

I'll never understand the google hype.

When I played Ultima Online 8 years ago everyone, and I mean EVERYONE used ICQ to talk to other gamers. It's sort of sad to see it decline in popularity. 🙁

I like to call people on this thing called a phone.
I hate using the phone. I prefer to actually GO see people.
I keep people I talk to on a regular basis in a cage in my attic. That way I don't have to go anywhere!

I use AIM because when I first got the internet, a lot of people I knew were on AOL. Foreigners probably don't have AOL in their country so they use whatever comes with their systems: MSN. It might also have something to do with foreign language input support. I can't get AIM to accept Chinese character input even though other people have typed to me in Chinese on AIM before.

I tried that but I have no light in the attic and if you saw how hard it is to get in there, you'd quit doing it too.

I am sorry, i meant communicate with others as in other people. Not programs. Sorry for the misconception. Also, someone else had a point. Being Canadian, AOL is not all that popular in my area. In fact, in everyone I know, only one person uses it. Everyone uses windows. Windows has messenger, MSN messenger is a better regular messenger. It is just a simple migration it seems. Perhaps if AOL was more widely used here we would use AIM. I also tried AOL and hated the crowded interface...so I kind of associated that with AIM and never tried it. Not to mention none of my friends use AIM, its MSN. My .02
