I used a webhost in which *any* email attachment with an ".exe", ".com", etc was summarily blocked. Ironically, this included email with attached forwards ("Reservations for your trip from www.expedia.com.eml").

So a 9 meg zip instead of a 10 meg exe might not matter to you, but maybe 500,000 people have downloaded it.
Listen to this man. :)

What I don't understand is why more people don't offer files as torrents, would be a great way to cut bandwidth costs. Of course not all people can do torrents, so a few HTTP/FTP mirrors should still be available.

Both WinZip and WinRAR allow you to save self decompressing zips and rars. This way you don't need any program to uncompress them at the other end. Of course this makes the files larger as it includes a small unzip program with the package.

I used to hate files that used Zip of Rar files which were actually files of some other format which I don't remember. I'd much rather haze Zip or Rar than EXE, although I've made some Rar EXE's on occasion for friends.

Oh no, instead of double-clicking an .exe, I have to right click and select extract and wait five seconds... might as well go kill myself now.

I didn't derive their noobness from the post count, just look at their join dates. And there's nothing *bad* about it, just pointing out the ironing of consecutive lifers posting after consecutive noobs.

They do it because GamersHell hates us, and feels the need to rar up a 2GB installer which is already compressed just so they can put a 1kb .txt file into the archive along with the original file.

19 posts every day for 7 years?! Sad. Your muscles must have atrophied from lack of use.

It's a requirement that the new internet supervision office had enacted last year. The commision is called International Member Action Harbor Official of Maintence Office (IMAHOMO for short)

That is just one of many rules that were enacted. We'll start seeing the other here pretty soon.
