My spousal unit said that the vet said that the dogs like to chew. Bones just happen to have the meat flavor so they prefer to chew bones and not rocks.

My female fawn pug likes to chew everything. I'm convinced she's part gerbil. She chews wood, paper, cardboard boxes, etc.

She's especially fond of my wife's panties. She manages to get them out the dirty clothes hamper, when I get out of my shower and return to the bedroom to get dressed she's on the bed just munching away. Or sometimes when my wife leaves her up there while I'm sleeping, I'll wake up with her next to me and she's got panties next to her while she's sleeping.

haha well done.

My dog especially likes the bone marrow also. She doesn't usually chew the plain bones all that much but she'll go at it almost non stop until she gets all the marrow.

My old German Shepard used to chew rocks. My dalmation now sometimes does it.
