Why do divx movies have pauses where video stops but audio doesn't?

I uh had some divx movies that in several parts of the movie, the video would pause but the audio wouldn't and you would have to skip over a couple seconds past that screwed up part. It's very annoying. Are they encoded bad? I've never had any of those in the divx videos that I've encoded...

Yep, it's because of bad encoding. I have a couple of divX's & nothing like that happens... I've seen VCD's (converted from VHS) where that happens though... & it's because of bad converting/encoding...

It's caused by a dead frame. There's actually a setting in NanDub that helps eliminate it called the "anti-sh!t threshold". :)

I believe it actually has to do with errors in the TCP/IP protocol when resuming a transfer. This utility should fix your problem, though I haven't tried it myself.

There's a program that claims to skip (but not fix) the bad frames. I've never used it, but you can find it somewhere here. let me know if that works-I'm curious

doh, tomcat beat me to it. use his site

Thanks. I currently only have one that I remember has that type of pause and I don't remember where the pause was so I'll check on it later and see if it works.
