schwarzenegger, fiorina, meg whitman, bloomberg...etc these people are already rich, so why bother with politics? i just always wanted to understand the reasoning for people who are pretty much set for life getting into it. most of these people dont really give a shit about anyone but themselves and will step on anyone that gets in thier way.

It's horrible that business people get into politics, we should only allow professional politicians be eligible to be elected. Damn business people don't know squat about how to run anything, we need more social workers or maybe community activists. We can even make it a requirement to have a college degree in political science. Who do these frigging business people think they are anyways? Americans?

Getting yourself into the history books is a powerful drug that is easiest when you have money.

Have to feel sorry for the rich Republican wanna bees on here that will never be known in history other than being haters of America and losers.

Celebrities are just like anyone else -- they have an opinion. Unfortunately, some people seem to feel the need to think the opinion of a celeb matters more than that of someone else, which of course is absurd.

Successful business folks that go into politics are usually motivated by 1) ego, and (more rare) 2) a genuine desire to improve things.

If you want to do more about how the country is governed besides complaining you get involved in politics.

Celebrities, of the movie star variety, have name recognition. Business people get into politics because they 1) have the cash to make a serious campaign, and 2) they are disgusted with the current crop of politicians with their heads up their behinds.

Isn't politics by its nature a business of celebrity? It is all about name recognition. The only difference it seems is the channel that they spew their hot air - CSPAN and FOX vs. NBC and FOX. :-/

Ego.

anyone who gets into politics has to have a giant ego -- it takes one to look around and know that you personally are the only one capable of leading your city/state/country successfully. business leaders and celebrities live in bubbles that feed their ego and they've frequently got the money to project it however they want to.

Because they like to act, they like to be in front of cameras, they like drama, they like to be famous, they like to be adulated, they like to read from scripts, they like to be worshipped, they like to be snooty, they like to be the center of attention, they like to be in charge, they like to be somebody else without consequence, they like to be remembered.....and mostly, if they want to move to higher ground, politics is the only occupation similar to theirs. Have I missed anything?* /slight sarcasm :p

edit - Pertaining to actors only*

Business people get into politics because they see politics from a business person's point of view. In other words, there's profits in politics.

In true capitalist fashion, their logic is "If I don't get it, someone else will".

They are good at telling lies and they do not live in the real world. Politics is all about selling an image. Any con man or actor should be able to pull it off.

There are a lot of politicians who are in it for all the right reasons. But you have to somehow get beyond the campaigns which pretty much just serve to make everyone look like a piece of shit.
