Why do car commercials do this???

I've always wondered why car manufacturers like to show off their vehicles by playing videos of them hydroplaning across a road in the rain. That doesn't give me very much confidence.

I am thoroughly annoyed by the commercials for 4x4 trucks and SUV's that show the things tearing through mud and other types of offroad terrain. But, such use voids the warranty if you actually buy one. I have to take the pressure washer to the underside of my truck before it goes anywhere near the dealer, so those a-holes don't give me any crap.
