So far of the multiple routers I've installed, including multiple Netgear, SMC, and Linksys, this happens.
I set the router to use automatic everything and expect it to pull data from the cable modem. But it never does. So, I unplug the modem and let it sit for a bit then boot it back up. Do the same for the router. Nothing.
Guess how it gets fixed? Do I change a setting or work some magic? Nope. I just let it sit there and then I am online. Sometimes it's a few hours. Sometimes I get bored and leave it on overnight.
So why is this? It's like the modem knows that you installed a new router so it won't share it's info. I thought that by cycling the power it would spit it out, but it won't.
Anyone else notice this? Is there a way to force it?
