why do cable modems have crap pings?

my friends w/ dsl have awesome pings (lower than 75) on most all servers. i on the other hand get around 100 to 150. what's up here? i download real fast too, even though i know it has nothing to do with pings.

I get the same, good downloading and sorry ass pings. 100-150 sometimes higher

I use aa cable in vegas, and half of the time i get less then 70 ping, and never get over 150 (maybe not never, but close enough).

I THINK it might be related to the fact most DSL connections upload much faster than cable...

It certainly depends on the ISP's routing abilities, not the cable modem. With AT&T RR, I average pings from 20ms to 50ms, rock solid, no packetloss.

Pingwise the best i have discovered is wireless net. When using my friends a/c i usually get pings in the 10-25 range
