Why do Blu-ray discs become unreadable and how do you fix this problem?

The article is dated 2019 but wondering what's the latest and have any of your experienced this problem and resolved it?? I have a blueray disk (King Of New York) that fails to load...won't get beyond the generic warning on the disk. No scratches or damage.. Tried in other players and same failure. " The company published a press release stating that the problem was caused by a batch of tainted resin used between June 2008 and June 2009 when adding the second layer to the Blu-ray discs. Based on your own link, it doesn't sound like there is a fix to this problem. Its a bad batch of disks made with bad material and they're going to go back no matter what.

Maybe ripping and encoding your physical media and keeping multiple back-ups is a good way to go to protect your media long term.

This is what I do/did. Even my old LD collection was transferred to my then PC. With the whole LD rot fiasco in the early 90s I didn't take any chances. Recorded my LD collection via an ATI all-in-wonder card I had at the time. Glad I did as my copy of Star Wars ANH developed rot. But I transferred to PC, this copy was long before all the edits and Lucas edits came out.

I've had problems with 4k disks to the point I will no longer buy them...one little scratch or similar and it fails to play or skip or pixel breakup...information density results in something very fragile..
