Why do bidders bid more than the value of a gift card?

They have paypal with no bank account linked.

Even more stupid is why the buyer was offering shipping insurance for 2.00 more when he said he's going to e-mail the code.

who knows, maybe the save on sales tax.

8% of $10 = 5 cent savings over bid price.
Believe tax is only collected on gift cards upon redemption.

Yes, but you still save $10.80 for every $10 you knock off the price of an item depending on sales tax. I doubt the person who bid thought this all the way through, but whatever.

doesn't matter...wether you pay $20 on ebay or in the store, it's still $20 for a $20 gift card. You still can only buy an item thats price plus tax is equal to or less than $20.

They pay paypal to buy the Amazon Code
Seller email's code to buyer
Buyer files chargeback on paypal
Paypal goes in favor of buyer since there was no delivery confirmation and the goods are virtual
Buyer profits

I'm thinking that could be a possibility, unless of course Paypal would consider an Email good enough proof that the buyer recieved the code.

You've misunderstood the previous statement.

Assuming an 8% sales tax, a $10 gift card is worth $9.26 as tax is collected upon redemption.

the high bidder seems to have good feedback...maybe they did a proxy bid of $11, not thinking it'd really get that high?

looks like they have been bidding on a lot of amazon codes, and maybe got confused?

marapom bid on these
