The real reason is because the cigarette is her only form of real satisfaction. She keeps finding men who arent *ahem* up to the task of pleasing her. So, in depression that NO man can satisy her, she turns to smoking. A cheap thrill, yes, but a thrill she cant get elsewhere......
you know its funny how many people think people start smoking because they think its cool... I only starting smoking because my friends were doing it and it was an honest to god "what is it like" feeling that made me try it... I knew it was bad for me and I always said I would never do it... but the wondering just got to me one day and I said "give me one of those".... they never said hey man try this it rocks... nothing. I liked it and continued to smoke until just last year. I started when I was 13 and I was 23 when I finally quit.
I honestly believe very few people start because its "cool"... to those that have never tried smoking I'm not going to say you should but just because something stinks like sh*t to you doesn't mean its not the sweetest smell on earth to some. It is an enjoyable habit to almost all that partake. So what if shes hot she's just enjoying a legal drug. It always comes back to this "those that are stupid do not know they are stupid!"

Agreed. I gave it a try when I was trashed...realized I liked smoking while drinking and it snowballed after that. I've since quit because I'm a cheap bastard (they got too expensive) and essentially traded my smoking habit for an Altoid habit.
I do find it somewhat amusing how judgmental people on this board are. Can't smoke b/c it makes you a terrible person, must study all the time b/c it's how you define your personal worth, can't drive a domestic b/c it makes you an idiot, can't believe in a higher power b/c it makes you a fool, etc...
I always thought it was us right-wingers (I consider myself Libertarian) were to supposed to be the intolerant jackasses.

my ex smoked because she wanted her voice to sound a little older.... over the phone she sounds like a little kid. stress was another big thing.
