Why do Asians think they are hard?

Now this post will probably incite a lot of people, but it's only one man's opinion.

It just seems to me, at my college, that a lot of Asian kids think they are tough and hard. I find it funny because first of all their parents buy everything for them, probably none of them had a hard life growing up, and most importantly none of them even know how to fight. Case in point, today I was playing ball with some friends and this one asian kid started throwing elbows at people's faces because he thought he was getting fouled. The second you start throwing elbows during a bball game, it's no longer a bball game it's a fight. My friend who was half his size confronted him and the asian kid pretended to act all hard. in 10 seconds the asian kid was pinned down to the ground and if we hadn't pulled them away he would have had his face pummeled.

this isn't the first time something like this has happened, almost everytime i play there's a fight about to erupt between two stupid Asian kids who think they are both hard. i don't condone fighting nor do i like to fight, but i must say it was fun to see that asian kid get thrown to the floor and pinned in a matter of seconds.

There are like no asians in my area, so I'm not aware of this phenomenom. However, your use of the term "hard" makes me wonder about your roots.

You are a truly insightful individual, because obviously all asians are like that.

We don't work hard? Geez, you know our parents worked their butt off to get to where they are today. Asians don't think they're hard. We're hard WORKING, loyal and diligent people.

If anything, it's you white people who think you're all that and gangsta and wannabe and what not. You see those Asian kids around sometimes, and you know what? I don't really consider those people to be really Asian. Asian means CHINESE, TAIWANSE, KOREAN, JAPANESE to me and you know what stereotypical Asian means? It means those nerdy types, or those fobby ones or the ones that wear dress shirts and dress semi-metro and what not.

But then again iono. As an Asian, I like to discriminate amongst Asians also...

99.9% of Asians are cool people, but you have to admit there are asians that think they are thugs and try to act like they are tough. the sad reality probably none of them even know how to fight, which is why they always roll in massive groups.

lol nice

OP, i feel you on the acting hard business but it really is the only way some people (not just "azns") can feel cool. i've got some friends, even asian friends, that i have from when i lived in berkeley/oakland (i'm in cali btw) and i don't blame em for acting hard. the ones i see in the south bay, they got some beating the need is all i gotta say. but i did meet this one asian guy who's hard but he's for real. can't blame him though, he from oakland too.

you know how we be OP ;)

So, you're saying that 99.9% are 'cool', but you're still generalizing all Asian as acting hard?
So . . . following this logic, I'm assuming that you think that each ethnic groups, the entire groups, mind you, follow one stereotype?

You're a moron, moron.

I understood that - but in saying what he said on the thread title, he implies that all, or a good majority, of asians follow this stereotype. My retort was a backhanded comment that it's not really dependent on an ethnic stereotype, but that there are assholes across the 'ethnic' spectrum.

I guess some people can be a little slow in the mornings. ;)

My personal perspectives on types of Asians (in the US):
Nerds. Keep to themselves and other nerds. Self-imposed exclusiveness. Like Anime. People make fun of them, but they take it and don't really do anything about it. Do reasonably well in school. Become worker bees in the system. May be fobby.
Azns. Idiots. Speak like they are "hard." Most closely identify to people in your example. Come from suburban, middle class areas, have never really experienced a world outside their little bubble. Azns are to Asians like Wiggers are to Whites.
Integrators. Speak perfect English. Don't feel awkward in social situations. Bi/Trilingual or +. Have a competent mastery of the English language. Can write material worthy of an "A" in an upper-division writing course at a quality university. Play sports. Work in jobs that require more than keeping to themselves in a booth/office.

Of course I'm being rather general here and I'm also a bit tipsy from too much Pinot, but these three are probably the most common types I run into (Socal). There is a bit of overlap as well, as detailed by a few sites out there (humorously):
Types of Asians
What kind of Asian are you?

Cheers, I'm going to bed.
