Why do asian dads always drink whiskey/liquor with their food?

Americans drink hennessy, johnny, and all that good stuff by itself.... on the rocks, straight, whatever.

I've noticed Asian dads always drink the same said drinks with a meal.

I just think that's hilarious. Are they meant to go with food? It's not beer or wine...

uh, I've never seen "an asian dad" drink whiskey with their food...

My dad drinks some rice wine stuff. He also has a disgusting habit of drinking beer. In a glass. With ice. Evidently it's a Vietnamese thing...

I've seen people drinking sake with meals, and I've had beer with a meal before, but I have NEVER seen a man drinking liquor with his meal.

Asian men drinking liquor with dinner is not a trend I've noticed.
Your threads however show a clear trend towards Faildom.

To be fair, I don't like the duck. The yolk is delicious though, as is the 'soup'. As a matter of fact, I had some this weekend. They were prime eggs too; the duck was REALLY small (I guess it was fairly early in the 'cycle'), and the yolk was huge. Just the way I like it.

But beer with ice is just fucking disgusting.

I drink tequila occasionally with my dinner. I've seen people drink coke with their dinner. Now that's nasty shit.

My Indonesian Grandfather drank whiskey with his meals. I myself take a shot of whiskey before eating but never drink while I eat.

I'm not asian, my father isn't, and I don't really know any asian families that well.

Having said that, it's more of a trend, and not specific to any ethnicity. I've been to a few restaurants lately where paired cocktails have been suggested with the meal. For the most part, I'm not into it because I tend to gulp down a lot of liquid with my food, so I usually stick to water. I just get very thirsty as I eat. But at one place, Rasika in DC, I have to say that I really enjoyed the drinks they mixed up for our food. I had to keep a glass of water to satisfy my thirst, but flavor-wise, I can see why some people are into it.

It's too damn expensive to do on a regular basis, though, at least for me :)

In hotter climates you have to put ice in your beer because it doesn't stay cold very long in the glass. It also waters it down so you don't get so dehydrated in the heat.

solution: put ice cubes in glass. drink beer from bottle. after ice cubes melt, drink water in glass.
