Why do apartment applications ask for my credit card and bank account #s?

I wouldn't put anything but maybe the bank account stuff. They have no need to see any credit card account stuff. They can pull your credit report without that information and validation. I guess they are trying to figure out a debt/income/savings ratio or something like that. Or maybe they are just fvcking nosy as hell. I would just leave it blank and say furnished upon request. I had to put that stuff down for a mortgage but not for an apartment or rental house.

They don't call all the places you lsit on there to check your credit. They make one call to a credit check place and give them your SSN. They do NOT need my CC numbers, and I really don't feel like writing it down on an application that will be kept indefinitely in an unsecured room with people I don't know working in it.

Credit history is (supposedly) a good measure of tenant quality. If nothing else, it certainly lets the landlord know how likely it is your rent will be paid on time.

They can pull the report without all that info they are asking for.

All they need is a name and SSN to run a credit check. There is NO reason for that other info. You should be asking them why they think they need that stuff. My instinct says I wouldn't want to rent from anyone who wants that info.

When did they start asking for CC numbers? I'm currently renting a house with some roommates and they asked for my SSN, bank account (which I declined to put my acct# but I did provide them my branch), salary, and previous addresses. I thought it was wrong of them to ask information about my car but I guess they want to know so they can impound it if I can't make rent. They asked for the license plate number (which I didn't write down), the color, and year.

It's just a standard form, I'm gonna call and ask if I can leave that part blank.

They probably want to make sure that you are who you say you are. You could have someone else's ID and social security number but not know which cards they have. Stupid? Yes, but safer for you.
