Why do all my link icons disappear?

I can't think of the right name but they're those little icons that are in the address window of browsers and when you save it as a favorite it has the icon next to the link. Each and every time I do this about a day later the icons disappear. Why is this and how do I get them to stay?

IE? When the browser has it cache cleared, that'll remove the icons. Favicon I think they are called.
