Why do A64s run with higher FSB?

I see people on here with A64's running on 250+ FSBs, but 225 seems to be the highest people get to with their Athlon XPs.

for the most part the bartons seems to be unable to handle higher FSBs on most motherboards, however the DFI boards seem to be able to take whatever FSB you can throw at it. if the ram will allow it,anyone can easily get 250fsb on the DFIs. i personally got 250 with my Geil 400mhz ram running slightly out of spec.

Very cool, do you have benchmarks comparing different FSBs with similar CPU clocks on your system? Or does anyone for that matter have benchmarks or links to some (that include Bartons running on FSBs around 250Mhz)?

That would be appreciated. I'm finally thinking of upgrading my Athlon 1.2@1.38 (157mhz, SDRAM), and I am in the research phase.

How do you like your DFI board? What model is it specifically?

i don't, i'd reboot and do that for you but i have several things going on with my computer for now. the memory scores don't improve as much as i would have expected with a 100mhz overclock however they were still substantial. it didn't boost overall cpu performance much at all though which i was expecting since the cache was running at higher rates.

i use both the DFI lanparty and infinity, both are great boards. the only complaint i have from them are cold/warm boot problems where you have to let the computer sit for awhile in order to get the bios cleared. its annoying but worth it for the other obvious benifits.

can you elaborate on the cold/warm boot problems? Why do you want the bios cleared?

on both the lanparty and infinity, they have issues when trying to clear the bios. for example, when i was pushing the limits of my ram i pushed too far and the PC wouldn't boot. i have to clear the bios, sometimes it will clear normally without a hitch,but sometimes it simply refuses to clear and the PC won't boot. i usually unplug it, leave the jumper in the clear position,and let it sit for a couple hours. after awhile it will finally clear and i can boot.

The Athlon 64 DOESN'T have FSB.....

I like my DFI Ultra Infinity. It's got 4 different bioses, so I can go from running at 2.5ghz (with all of the voltage & fsb tweaks that requires), to running at stock speed, in about 20 seconds. Plus, it has loads of overclocking options. Oh, and it was only $99 at newegg.😉

edit: And Alex is right, the A64 doesn't even have an fsb, the same way that all other chips have an fsb. That's the reason they will run so much higher.

Unless you consider HyperTransport as a FSB(non-traditional sense of course).

i own two different models of DFI boards,both with extremely good experience and ability to push 250 with 200 ram.
