Why did you choose the career field that you did?

I wound up in mine rather accidentally, but I'm good at it and I like it, so I'm pretty happy with it.

i remember watching McGyver when I was little and I was like, man, I wanna be just like him. The closest thing I can think of was Mechanical Engineering. Plus, my dad was an EE, and 2 of my uncles were MEs also, it wasn't that hard to pick.

I had the proper connections to get into the industry at that time.
So I took the chance.

English Teacher, You like being an English teacher. Why to pick on those of us with logic oriented brains?

I'm not an English teacher. I'm a project manager and data analyst.

Was working at a video rental store and my Mom and Dad showed me an ad for a PC Tech class, said they'd front me the money if I went.

So basically because my Mom and Dad saw an add in the local paper and suggested it to me.

I was 16 y/o then if that matters.

When I graduated with a BS in Geology there was an oil bust in progress. I ended up as a computer operator for EDS and a couple years after that landed a position as a Fortran programmer at NRL. I guess I fell back on the tech field since I was an Avionics tech in the Navy.

My dad didn't pay attention to me, my grandmother bought me an Apple II. The rest is history.

Well, since I got my major in Comp Eng, and I'd been into computers since I can remember, so it was a no brainer, well actually it took alot of my brain :)

I was good at it, liked it at the time, there were lots of jobs, and it paid damn good.

Now I hate it. There aren't many jobs. And the pay has leveled off.

Yay for IT.

It made sense to me, it was meaningful, and it helps provide insight into the way our society/government work.

I choose mine to prove to my computer studies teacher that I could be successful as a technician. he remarked to my parents at my graduation that I would never be successful in this profession...now I earn over twice as much as him and rub it in on a weekly basis:D

It was brain-dead simple, it pays well, and if one is good at it, jobs are easy to find. These are all very bad reasons to choose a career in the long run.

um, i was sort of picked up as a free agent at large. a friend got me the interview and the interviewers liked me quite a bit. i wouldn't have dreamed in a zillion years i would be working in this field.

degree = B.A., majored in Communication Studies, minor in bullcrap

job = municipal property tax assessment & property valuation / inspection
