why did win2k let me install on the same partition as win98se?

title says it all. Not sure why, but win2k let me install on my c: partition, even though I already have a copy of win98SE on the same partition. I have not run into a single problem yet, however.

I can't say I like the idea of 2 OS's running on the same partition, because I usually like the freedom of being able to format the entire partition that an OS is residing on if necessary. Should I be worrying?

It doesn't stop you. The user has the option to install to a partition where there is an existing Win9x installation. Not recommended, but possible.

You'll get your Program Files folder screwed up (in a way) if you let it install on the same partition.

It's not impossible, but it's not practical. You will have registry errors up the yingus.

Soooo don't do it.

already did it. SO far no problem, but I'm wiser now. At the sign of any problem, I'll repartition and format the drive, then reinstall win2k and win98 on separate partitions. I use win2k MUCH more than win98, and I just use win98 mainly for gaming.

thanks

It's definitely possible, but it's not recommended as it significantly increases the chances of registry errors, conflicting files between the OS's, etc.

And also you'll be running win2k on a FAT32 partition and it'd be better if it was on a NTFS partition.
