Because it looks so plain, no soul, like Camry/Accord.

CTS, on the other hand, is gorgeous and has character.

Looks are so subjective, I'll bet some people find Rosie gorgeous. :Q

Cause it sucked. The engine was smooth enough to be considered a Caddy and the styling wasn't Caddy either. Caddy didn't know what direction to take with the Catera, they tried to give it an European look and drive, yet Caddy is an icon of the American car industry. Why make it cars drive like Euro cars??

Why did it have "European look and drive"? Because it was european car! Cadillac Catera was Opel Omega with few minor modifications. They re-branded it as Cadillac and shipped it to USA.

Didn't sell well. They took a good European car and made it into a bad USA car. A normal trick for GM.

my uncle leased the first gen and the second gen (he has the second gen now) catera's. They are nice cars for what they are. Far superior to standard luxury american mid-size sedans. However its no compareison to the mid-size import sedans. You get a lot more in comfort on import luxury sedans compared to what you get with teh catera. In that case you see the catera as a plain vanilla icecream cone with a cherry on top.
