WHy did they change the child's goodnight prayer?

Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the lord my soul to keep
and if i die before i wake
i pray the lord, my soul to take

Why did they replace the "and if i die before i wake" part? I don't think I met a child who was scared of a prayer line. They just "like it cause it rhymes" as my neice says.

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep,
Guard me while I sleep tonight,
And wake me safe at dawn's first light.

I haven't heard this anywhere until now. Maybe just the people you've heard it from changed it?

Modern Children can't take it, might get scared that they're gonna die in thier sleep. One step closer to the Ultimate pussifacation of the american child. 🙂

They changed it for the same reason that schools are no longer using red pens to mark papers and they're changing the grading system from A thru F to some other crap. Because we are raising a generation of weak tarts that won't be able to handle the real world when they grow up. Because they've been coddled and told they're a special little snowflake their whole lives.

I like the second one. "If I die before I wake" How morbid is that. Time to change that puppy.

That about sums it up. Parents these days are useless tards the way they are raising their children....to become useless tards. Take my neighbors for example. She is head of the special education department for the school district (tard department) yet she has completely RUINED her children with the way she has raised them. She expects nothing from them, will not correct them when they are wrong, does not punish them when they are bad.....all because she claims it will hurt their self esteem. The 16 year old is in special school and will be let to graduate only performing on a Middle School level because the system does not want to deal with his behavioral problems. That self esteem sure will be important when he can't even hold a job at McDonald's as an adult.

They also changed The Battle Hymn Of The Republic (surprised you can still even sing that anymore). Verse 3 used to read "As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free..." Now must texts read "... let us LIVE to make men free."

if religion doesnt adapt to a changing society, it will die

I'm glad I found a decent school for my kid. Not only do they still use red pens, they still let them play dodgeball 🙂

I've never heard that version before... and I've got young nieces and nephews that are still learning the 'old' version.

I always wondered about that, as it made more sense (to me) for it to say "let us die to make men free", but the old hymnal at a church I used to go to said "live to make men free"... and it was printed sometime in the early 60s, IIRC. Quite a while ago.

That's interesting. I first noticed in the 90s when I got some sheet music that had both words in it, and then a few years later got a copy that just had "live," so I assumed it was a new PC change.

But perhaps it's actually just the "civilian" version?

No idea, but I know that it was not a recent change, PC or not.

You may be correct in that it's the "civilian" version... makes a bit of sense. 🙂

There's different version of everything. Just those people that whine about everything.

Just lke how Rock-a-bye Baby talks about the kid falling out of a tree...
