Why did the GTX 460 spike in price so long after its debut?

In any case, I need something faster to take advantage of new games, and also older games with modern texture packs and such.

The GTX 460 has been end of life for quite a while, so the prices are skewed as a result. Supply dried up a long time ago so it's nearly impossible to get a new card, so any stock you find will be used or extremely old...

SLI premium. People can barely buy new cards to crossfire or SLI their computer. Supply and demade (should) dictate price, and it's marked accordingly.

Just look at the 6870!
