I thought it was just an emmisions thing - they lacked sufficient emmissions control stuff to be legal on US roads.

Youcan get them worked over by an importer and made street legal, but by the time that's all said and done you could have had a better car for less money.

It certainly wasn't because they are "too fast." They are fast, yes, but would be blown away by lots of street legal US cars.

Skylines Illegal???? geez I'm glad I live in Australia...not only can you legally own and drive one, but you can get them for under AU$25000 now for a decent R32 GTR or around AU$35000 for an R33 GTR...I have seen some R34 GTR's for under AU$60000 but they did look pretty ordinary.

my favorite is the R32 GTR...damn that car was the king in the Group A class touring car racing from 89-92...before they were banned from competition(they were too fast).

Motorex used to import them, but from what I read they were shady at best. I've also read of people having their cars confiscated and destoyed by the DOT even after they were supposedly made "street legal"

I believe the only way to legally get them in, is in pieces. Even still insuring/registering is something that probably wouldn't happen.

I nearly bought an R32 a few years back(when they were AU$38000), the insurance costs is what stopped me, it was cheaper for me to insure a 380hp 302 powered XD Falcon(which is what I bought instead) than the R32(the XD was about a second and a half quicker 0-400m)

Well it's pretty damn exclusive. There are more Enzo's in the US than Skylines, I'd wager.

(Yes I KNOW which we would all prefer, it's just an illustration...)

Yes, because they're faster than perfectly legal lamborghinis, and louder than perfectly legal harleys.

It must be I-have-no-common-sense day or something.

You always want what you can't have.

It's such a rare car in the U.S.
Why would you buy a Lambo if you could modify another car to be faster? It's all about character, rarity, and uniqueness (sp).

faster drag racing maybe...certainly not with any sort of turns. Of course with the ammount of long and straight roads in the U.S....

I'd much rather have the XD :D I just sold my 302 clevo powered XA sedan :( This is the last time saw her :(
