Why did percolators fall out of fashion? They make such a good cup of coffee. . .

Got a stovetop percolator and have not touched my drip machine since. Clearly a superior coffee experience (much much more flavor). . .

If you own a percolator there is no reason to buy filters and no reason to replace your coffee machine every two-three years. That would be long term marketing fail on the part of industry.

Just as skunks have much much more aroma than roses...

I have one of those small percolators I use for espresso and it makes a pretty kick-ass espresso.

I don't know, but it's probably harder to get consistent water temperature. I prefer to use french press with hot water tap on cooler.

I have an electronic percolator, and it's my favorite automatic coffee maker. Much better than autodrip. I don't think I've ever used a stove top perc, but I have cooked open grinds while camping. Not bad coffee, but a little more "body"(grinds :^D) than I like in my coffee :^D

Yep, one of those. It's specifically designed for espresso. I drink a lot of coffee and espresso and it tastes pretty damn good to me.

I use one of those when I go camping, I like going camping but I'm not doing it with out my Brandy and my espresso.

Boiling water at same the same pressure, with the same type and amount of stuff in it, will be at the same temperature.
If that was not the case their would be all kinds of issues with well basically everything in modern society.
Also small concentration differences of said substances usually doesn't lead to that big of difference in the boiling point.

They're not bad; unless you spend hundreds on a machine, these are hard to beat.

Apparently they went out because it's very easy to burn the coffee. I'm not a cover drinker but I use. French press for tea. Just got to remember not to let it brew too long or it gets bitter.

Stove top or electric perculators were what everyone used when I was a kid in the 70's. Melita came out with their Drip cones and soon everyone was using those. I think it was largely just the difference of the taste and not so much that one was better.

I'm assuming you have a Moka pot which I think most coffee snobs do not categorize with the electric percolators that have become despised. I have one but I do not get to use it too much. Lately though the coffee tastes sour and I can't figure out how to fix it. I have an induction hot plate with only very coarse temperature controls so I may not be able to set it on a proper low boil.

On my last camping trip, a young lady stopped by my camp as I was making coffee and asked what kind of a pot is that? She had never seen a percolator.

I grew up with percolated coffee and really prefer the taste of drip pots. We had a Pyrex percolater that was pretty interesting. The only metal in it was the top and bottom plates for the piece on the stem that holds the grounds. It made very good coffee for a percolator.

I'm getting a French Press for Christmas as everyone seems to think thats the best route for homemade coffee.
