I have an FX-8310 (32nm) clocked at 4.3ghz and 1.35v.
My old motherboard was a GA-MA790X-UD4P running a Phenom2 X4 965 clocked at 4ghz (45nm node) and 1.44v.
Exactly how much more power does the FX-8310 really use? Even with this 8+2 phase system I'm having no trouble bouncing off the VRM throttling code (good to know Gigabyte has it even if they don't advertise it!)
Frankly, I was expecting more out of the power supply on this board.
At this point the only discrepancy from the 790X days is that board at least had a heat pipe linking the VRMs (to...chipset?), and from the looks of photos, better heatsink to begin with (fins)--
here's what my 970A-UD3P's VRMs have cooling them--
definitely less surface area.
these are things I never would have thought to check before purchasing! Gigabyte definitely cutting corners here from what they used to provide! the more you know...
