Okay, someone probably did tell me, but I didn't bother to check it out further. I had only heard of it after hearing about "The Big Bang Theory" and assumed it was of the same ilk, which is a terrible, unfunny show, and anyone who watches it should be ashamed of themselves. It's like a mock 80s nerd comedy, but without any of the comedy...
Anyway, The IT Crowd is hilarious. It doesn't try to be too nerdy/geeky, has a lot of random humor, and the actors and characters are superb. Richard Ayoade ("Maurice Moss") has the funniest facial expressions, Chris O'Dowd ("Roy", aka the cop in Bridesmaids, which I saw first) sells the whimpering he does so often on the show, and Katherine Parkinson ("Jen") makes a great odd man out, so to speak. I'm glad only 1 of the 3 is a stereotypical geek/nerd, and his foibles and eccentricities are unique compared to other stereotypical nerds in the genre, so it doesn't ruin the show, it actually makes it really good.
I have to mention that Douglas is the best boss character I've seen in almost any comedy, with the possible exception of Ron Swanson from Parks and Recreation. Fantastic voice, too. The workout he does in one episode had me laughing out loud for a good minute, reminded me of the Call On Me music video.
If you haven't seen the show yet, go watch it as soon as you get a chance. It's on Netflix Instant Streaming for all of my fellow subscribers.
