Because the way the stories were presented, showing the same event over and over from each character's perspective, required watching TV AND simultaneous brain activity ..... wayyyyyy too complicated for most average American television viewers who don't think about what they see on TV but just accept whatever pap is fed to them through their tube (cathode ray tube, that is).

man....thats a shame. so i guess if you are a producer, and you have a brilliant idea, you are really in a bind cuz u know your show wont last even though its better than most of the other shows on tv!

Because it required intelligence, memory, thought and didn't lend itself well to constantly and easily repeated formulas.

Really, aiming a program at intelligent people is a kiss of death in modern TV-land. Especially if it's not marketing approved for the lowest common denominator.

By it's nature, TV is an extremely conservative medium. (How many times have TV shows taken risks? Not often, right) It's just that now it's become uber-conservative and will take formulaic rehash 1000X over something different and innovating.

Simple... look what sells and what doesn't. Reality shows vs. creative drama.

The public wants it simple... with "real" emotions.

You're kidding, right? I agree that it was a pretty good show, but seriously, there was nothing that groundbreaking about Law & Order, Jr...I mean Boomtown.

They aren't really the same. Saying that is like saying all cops shows are like law and order. Granted, in some ways they are, but the shows were quite different. And law and order is better. I could care less that boomtown was cancelled.

It was axed because it sucked.

Seriously, I never watched it, as the ads made it look really lame. I'm tired of the ads which claim that every new show is the greatest thing every to grace the small screen.

LOL, man, the point is I was kidding about it actually sucking, because I the ads turned me off to watching it, so I never had a chance to find out. I'm thinking maybe it was the same for others, hence my contribution to the thread. I'm sorry if it looked like I was crapping on your show and thread. :)
