Why did my thread get locked? (Kinda pissed)

Here was my original post:

I live in dorms and my roomates are able to download music, but my computer won't connect. The weird thing is file sharing worked fine for about the first week, now it doesnt. My roomies use the same program too. I'm running Win2K so I don't think the firewall has been built in like in XP. Any help/suggestions? Thanks!

--------

Now that I can't get back to the original thread, I can't post the replies I got, but there were a few people who said things like, "Anandtech frowns upon illegal music downloading....Your thread should be locked.....etc etc..."

Now what pisses me off is that people automatically assume I would be downloading illegal music hence the moderator locked my message. Did it ever occur that I use file-sharing programs for non-illegal purposes? Any mod want to respond to this? I'm just feeling a bit short-ended is all....

:disgust::frown:

The title of your original thread was, "How do I take down a firewall so I can download music?" You may not request help to defeat any limitations imposed by your school on the use of their network.

the mods frown on downloading music since you didn't buy the original CD or whatever. If you have the original CD, you can either make your own MP3s or just listen to the CD.

Also, a firewall is there for a reason.

oh, and WRONG FORUM.

In addition there are already several dozen threads that address this issue. Do a search in the network forum.

Well, I appreciate the AT forums and the people who respond/help me out with questions I have. When I can, I try to respond to their questions as well. As for the "wrong forum" thing, I figured the Off Topic message board would be the best place to post this type of question, so sorry...my mistake. Sometimes I think it gets a little "ticky-tack" on where to ask questions on message boards and I would think something like this wouldn't be that big of a deal to the mods, but I guess I was wrong.

There's a "forum issues" forum available for questions about forum issues. Kinda fits the name. If your thread was locked, you can either post in Forum Issues, or PM the Anandtech Moderator, or email them. No need to start another thread that will just get locked too.

Thanks ffm for making me feel stupider than I am...really appreciate that. I guess have to post another 17,000 posts before I'm as smart as you?
