Why did my second HD disappear?

How would I go about retriieving the hard drive if my computer doesn't recognize it?

A little program called SpinRite would likely solve your problems. Unfortunately it is a bit on the expensive side.

Of course, first make sure it's not a hardware issue like a cable coming loose.
