I mean really, are they that desperate to get people to download their pos MSN Messenger that they have to remove functionality? if anyone can think of a real reason why this was removed it would be appreciated.

ok, now I see why...they want you to have advertisements at the bottom of the client window like everyone else if you are going to use their free service....what a load...

What version of Windows Messenger are you talking about (do a help/about), and what functionality are you referring to?

Actually they did it because Windows Messenger and MSN Messenger are being split off into two different products. Windows Messenger is meant to be used with their Office Live Communication Server or Exchange Messaging Services in Exchange 2k. It's basically aimed more towards businesses than it is towards consumers. MSN Messenger is meant to be used as the consumer IM client.

I'm using the latest (beta I think) build of Windows Messenger here because I connect to both Exchange and Passport. It does everything that MSN messenger does right now, but so far has always taken a version to catch up on features.

Don't forget, we asked for this. If MS puts every fancy IM feature in there that you want then some jack@ss attorney general that uses YIM or AIM will sue MS for abusing a monopoly

still sucks though, so now I am subjected to adverts and what not?? at least if they are going to go this route give me an option to uninstall windows messenger instead of leaving it integrated.

You shouldn't be getting adverts in Windows Messenger. Not sure about MSN.

Clear the checkbox in Tools | show action pane
