Why did Lucifer fall from heaven?

I was raised LDS so wanted to make sure I have my story straight before mentioning it in a paper. If there are variations among Christians, the Puritanical version is what I'd most like to know about. My basic understanding is that Lucifer had a plan for mankind that conflicted with God's plan in that his plan didn't allow for free will and the glory would be his rather than God's. Is this correct? If so, why did Lucifer come up with this plan? Lack of faith in mankind?

Thanks!

The story that I know, and believe, is that Lucifer wished that man was to be presented with the opportunity to compose their own rules. God, strongly opposing this idea, cast Lucifer from heaven.

What do you mean compose their own rules? And since you're a Satanist and all, where'd you get that story from?

i think the bible is the greatest piece of fiction work ever created. at that, i also share a lack of faith in mankind, and wouldn't quite mind seeing one of this end of the world scenarios actually play out. we don't die, not likely... but it should shake us up, especially if its an ice age induced by us, that should shake up our ideals towards life.

I mean that he wanted man to make their own rules. No 10 commandments, just do as you know what's good for you. Source? Satanist bible.

Well in a nutshell he fell because he wanted to be more than what God would let him be: He wanted absolute freedom and power to do what he wanted, and God just couldn't have that. So he rebelled.

I see. I don't know if you're being serious or not, but I kind of need a Christian view of it.

Any idea what he wanted to do with that power?

well there ya go. the bible is exaggerating one side and stretching everything out of proportion, and its likely your version also does the same thing, except to the other side.
so wait, classic politics was invented with the gods? damn them all lol

First Lucifer is not Satan just for the people who think he is. Second there was no literal fall from heaven. Lastly "Lucifer" was the King of Babylon.

Yeah, that's kinda true, I guess. It's all symbolical, though ;).

I think the story you have is fairly accurate compared to what everyone believes, I guess

a quick search brought up this website that seems like it's pretty good.
link

It seems the essence of it is that Lucifer desired to exalt himself to the level, or above that of God.

I'm Catholic. I've heard that story before, but I never even heard of the name Lucifer or the fallen angel thing even one time in anything dealing with my religion, including catholic high school and all the years of religious education before that. just another one of those differences in the flavors of christianity i guess.

This is about Satan and not Lucifer. Anyway "Satan" as "Christians know him wanted the power because of influence from other religions that had a good vs. evil premise. This was picked up slightly before the whole christ thing went down.

Satan is, was and always will be God's right hand man. The guy that runs around with a group of demons frying people in hell is simply an influence of other religions.

Stories of upset in heaven and Satan being cast down were made up to make the whole thing jive..........

Satan championed man's sovereign independence of will but only insofar as it served his own personal agenda of vindicating his own self righteousness and undermining that of God's.

Lucifer and Gabriel were butt-buddies, but since Gaby was God's favorite, Luke got tossed so Gabe wouldn't be tempted any more.
