I thought the army or whoever was supposed to send someone to tell you in person.

Why did she get a phone call?

*referring to the mom in Fahrenheit 9/11.

Because all the personnel who used to perform in that capacity have been shipped off to Iraq to die?

This isn't a discussion about the movie or it's views, I'm just curious why she got a phone call......

Did she say she got a phone call? I only remember it cutting to her and moore saying it in voice over well after the fact. I don't remember seeing a phone call. Maybe moore just assumed it was a call?

she said she went to the phone, they answered "lila lipscomb, mother of sgt michael pederson, the department of defense regretfully....." and then she dropped to the floor in grief or something.

It was a telephone call.

it really is impractical to send a live person to every home. They used to use telegrams, however in this age, news travels too quickly to do that, so they call.

Maybe she got a visit but didn't report it. Or Moore paid her off.

Yeah thats it Moore paid her okff to say that she got a phonecall. Her son died needlessly (at least in her mind) and thats all that matters to her. Does the story have less impact if she got a vistit from Colin Powell to tell her of her sons death?
