Why did Halo 2 suck major...well...

What was Bungie thinking?!?! This is what happens when hype gets bent out if proportion. They made their E3 trailer look amazing, but they failed to incorporate anything useful from that (besides vehicle boarding, etc.). I mean, why even bother creating a trailer that doesn't even represent the same game!? I am royally pist off.

Halo 3 and the Xbox Next better make up for it...

Hype is what made Halo 1 so popular. News flash, the honeymoon is over, it was never meant to happen.

I thinik Halo 2 is awsome. The story was not as good as the Halo1, but who cares about that? Multiplayer makes up for that, but they seriously need to switch the starting wepon. I hate spwaning with an SMG only to be killed instantly by someone withg a better wepon. They should switch it to Battle Rifle. I mostly play Custom games and they are all MLG rules.

Multiplayer does rock, but I was talking about the storyline.

I was quite disappointed in Halo 2 after I was able to play it for a week or two. The first Halo wasn't popular because of hype, it's because it was good. IMO, Halo 2 would be a ton better if the view weren't so constrained. To me, it feels like looking out of a pop can, you can't see anything that isn't directly in front of you. That ruins almost the entire game for me unfortunately.

I thought everyone loved this game, except for the ending? Wernt there people on here saying they enjoyed it more than HL2?

Ya the story kind of sucked. I beat it on normal the day after I got it which was the day it came out. Legendary is really hard though. Legendary in Halo 1 was simple, but with Halo 2 it is even hard to get past the first level. Took me forever.

Oh, please. The combat seems so uninspired in Halo 2. Urban combat? How about back alley combat. And the physics really aren't that great. I had my laughs, but after a while, the bugs just got me annoyed. The cutscenes sucked, and what is the deal with the ending? I've heard of cliffhangers, but that was just plain stupid.

EDIT: Epic battles? How about skirmishes in confined areas? I can't believe they didn't include that cutscene with the Pods... And why does Halo 2 do that "loading thing" in every cutscene. You know what I'm talking about?

How many game sequels surpass the original?

Quite a few - AOE2, System Shock 2, Thief II, many would say HL2 (but that's debatable), a hell of a lot of racing games, a hell of a lot of strategy games, etc.

i should have specified FPS - like Halo. You have named outstanding exceptions.

Unreal II, Max Payne II, Deus Ex II, Doom iii, NOLF II, Splinter Cell II, Tomb Raider: AOD, ANY 007 game after Goldeneye . . . arguably HL2, Thief III . . . some of which were very good games in their own right (except Doom iii) but did not meet expectations.

If an original is exceptional - like Deus Ex - the sequel could never match it because of the unreal expectations of its fans. Anyway, my point was - you cannot expect the sequel to automatically be as good or better than the original.

BTW, is Halo for PC worth getting if you have never played it on x-box or otherwise? Is it checkpoint only or does it also have anytime save?

I'm going to say a couple things here that might be spoilers - so skip my post if you haven't beaten it yet.

First of all, everyone expected it to be set on earth. Instead, there was like one earth level, then you were off to play as the arbiter for a while, then back to another Halo.

Second of all, the ending I heard was rather abrupt. Everyone expected there to be more game, and instead it was just "Credits".

The first halo seemed to me like it was an awesome game that was hurt by the timing of the launch of the xbox. Seemed like the game developers just went "copy-->paste" over and over, recreating room after room that looked the same in order to increase the length of the game.

Halo 2 may have been hurt because of the launch of the xbox 3/xbox next/xbox 360/whatever. Instead of finishing the story in Halo 2, the developers just ended it, and will probably pick it up again with a new engine on the next xbox console as a launch title to sell systems.

I know what you are talking about and it is pretty stupid. It does it in multiplayer maps too. Especially zanzibar when you first start. I also agree the ending sucked. Halo 1's ending was nice. At the end Master Cheif just says "That was only the begining" or something like that. That was a nice ending because it left you wanting more, but at the same time gave you the feeling of completing the game because the last level. Halo 2 just ends and it is really stupid.

Halo 2 seemed a mixed bag to me. The Master Chief missions were quite fun, but the missions as the Arbiter sucked fat ones.

Stupid, Bungie, Stupid. NEVER humanize the enemy.

In addition, the game should've spent most of it's time on earth dealing with the urban warfare and such. That was its money-ticket, and it was mostly squandered.

Overall, still quite a good game, but it missed a few key opportunities.
